Miyo Baby Hammock

When your baby has kept you awake during the hours designated for sleep and you may find yourself dragging through day. There are some ways of getting rest with a baby during the day. Of course, if you are the mother of one, when the baby naps is a great idea. For those who have more than one child, however, you know that getting rest with a baby during the day is not that easy.

When you feel like you eyes are sagging, lay baby on the floor on a blanket and put in a video for your older children and lay down next to baby. When it comes to getting rest with a baby during the day, the floor is your friend. If the baby is a newborn, you can nurse while lying on the floor and resting your body. If the baby is mobile, be sure that the room you are in is baby proofed just in case you doze. My babies, even after becoming mobile were never content for me to sit or lie on the couch while they played on the floor. However, if I was next to them on the floor, they would play happily.

If you don’t want to lie on the floor, put the baby in an exersaucer and pull it close to the couch. Baby will be within arm’s reach and level with you as you lie down to rest. Getting rest with a baby during the day is easier now with tons of baby equipment available to help you keep baby entertained for 20-30 minutes.

If your older child still takes a nap you should have no problem getting rest with a baby in the house. Once your baby has found his or her natural routine you can plan for your older child’s nap to coincide with one of the baby’s naps. After my youngest son was born I had three children under the age of five. My oldest (who is now in school) was no longer taking regular naps. Each day I declared an hour after lunch as “quiet time”. The baby either napped next to me on the bed (always practice safe co-sleeping techniques) or in his swing so that I was assured he would stay asleep for at least an hour. My middle son (two at the time) took his daily nap during this quiet time. My oldest (four and a half years old then) would play quietly in the family room while watching a video or his favorite television show. (Yes, I realize what an amazing blessing that was!)

Even if you work outside of the home you can make a plan for getting rest during the day with a baby. Pack your lunch so that you don’t have to waste time going out for lunch. Eat it in the first twenty minutes of your lunch break and then lay your head on your desk for the last forty minutes. No desk? Sleep in the break room. If you work part time, consider leaving the baby with the baby sitter for an extra hour and come home for a nap after work.

Overall, try to worry less about your lack of sleep or about all of the things that won’t get done while you are getting rest during the day with a baby. Expect to function on little sleep during the baby’s entire first and you will be very pleased if you do get extra rest.

The White House has released details about the First Family's Thanksgiving dinner: They are hosting about 50 guests including family, friends and staff. … Pie and appetizers are the best part of the meal in my opinion. ss193, if Obama visits the troops in Afghanistan/Iraq he'll have to eat a lot of humble pie because the service men and women over there realize how futile and immoral those wars truly are. thanksgiving do ahead

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, you may be thinking about what to do for the holiday this year.  If you are lucky enough to be invited to someone’s home for dinner, good for you!  Go and enjoy!  Eat well!  Drive safely!  But if you are far from those who would invite you, and travel isn’t possible this year, don’t despair. Treat the holiday the proper way, and make the most of it.  That doesn’t have to mean buying tons of raw materials and preparing them yourself for days, though.  In

Los Angeles, there are so many alternatives to the traditional cooking marathon that it will really give you something to be thankful about.

Going Out On Thanksgiving?  How Could You? How Could You Not!

Recognizing that many people in Los Angeles do not have the desire, or in some cases, the ability to prepare or attend a traditional Thanksgiving meal, an increasing number of restaurants have begun opening on Thanksgiving and serving a special menu.  These menus range from the traditional, with turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce, to far-out meals with every course a new and interesting experience.

For the biggest bargain in Thanksgiving dining, try The Original Pantry.  Located at 877 S. Figueroa St., this

Los Angeles classic hasn’t closed since the 1920s, so you can bet they’ll be open on Thanksgiving.  They’ll be offering a full Thanksgiving dinner, complete with all the traditional trimmings for $20 per person.  Considering how much food you get for your money at The Original Pantry, you may have trouble getting out of your seat when you are finished, because you’ll be so full.

At the other end of town, and the other end of the spectrum, is Melisse, located at 1104 Wilshire Blvd in  Santa Monica.  This meal features things that your mom never thought about putting on the table at your Thanksgiving dinner, like Maine lobster ravioli, herb roasted free range turkey with chanterelle mushrooms, apple and brioche stuffing and pomegranate gravy; crispy eastern bass with roasted fall squash, and confit tomatoes in a Champagne-truffle reduction.  This dinner is help from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and costs $68 for adults and $26 for children.

In a similar twist on the traditional, you can dine in pastoral comfort at the Saddle Peak Lodge, at 419 Cold Canyon Road
in Calabasas.  For $65 per person, you’ll get a four course meal with dishes like sauteed diver sea scallops, foie gras-stuffed quail, and, of course, free-range turkey.

Foie gras stuffed quail not your thing?  Why not make your way to West Hollywood and visit La Boheme, 8400 Santa Monica Blvd. , where, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving you can get a three-course meal that includes seasonal oysters with Champagne mignonette, free-range turkey with stuffing, and pumpkin pie for $38 for adults and $20 for children.

Still not satisfied?  Try Campanile at 624 S La Brea Ave. They are offering a four-course deal, with rosemary-charred turkey breast as the main course. Adults cost $60; children are half-price, at $30.

Another option?  Try Jar, 8225 Beverly Blvd.  A traditional holiday menu will be offered for $70 for adults, and $35 for children.

Okay, let me give you one more option.  This one will knock your socks off.  This is class fancy Los Angeles.  Try Smeraldi’s Restaurant in the Millenium Biltmore, 506 South Grand Ave. For $48 per person, you can get a four-course Thanksgiving menu from 11 .m. to 8 p.m.  Or, should you want to dine somewhere else for dinner, but tea time is free?  There will be a Thanksgiving afternoon tea in the hotel’s Rendezvous Court including Champagnefrom 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for $30 for adults and $22 for children.

All right, are you overwhelmed?  Don’t want to even eat in public?  Frightened by the prices?  There is a bargain alternative open to you, and it is as near as your local supermarket.  Almost every supermarket chain offers some kind of Thanksgiving meal package to go for as many or as few people as you want.  You can get a pretty standard type at Albertson’s or Ralph’s, or you can take a step upscale at Whole Foods or Gelson’s.   And, of course, you could really leap into the grand with a visit to Bristol Farms.

Can’t even make it out the door?  Oh yes, there is even an option that will fit your needs.  It’s what I do.  I order a smoked turkey from Greenberg Turkey Farms of Tyler, Texas.  It arrives at your door, you heat it up or eat it cold, and it’s amazingly good.  Check them out at www.gobblegobble.com.

Baby Sleep Feeding

Re: miyo baby hammock reviews

When someone says to me “I slept like a baby”, I have a little chuckle and ask them if they woke up every hour on the hour. People tend to say this to illustrate a good nights sleep but there is nothing restful about ‘sleeping like a baby’.

Babies wake up multiple times in the night because they need to eat every few hours due to dramatic growth. It is a natural part of parenthood that parents are expecting. When this growth slows down some kids tend to sleep better and will sleep though the night.

This isn’t true for all children though. Some develop sleep disorders, a few of which can be quite scary to their parents. These can range from mild nighttime disruptions to down right dangerous behavior.

Interrupted sleep cycles are not only irritating they are not good for your child. Children need sleep to aid in proper growth both physically and mentally. When a child isn’t receiving proper amounts of sleep they can have weakened immune systems, which makes them more prone to illness. They may become moody and have difficulty concentrating.

Anxiety

This is probably the most common cause of sleep issues in children and adults alike. In the case of children it may simply be an issue of being afraid of the dark. Monsters and other creepy crawlers whipped up by your child’s imagination are just waiting to get them once the lights go out.

Most children at one point or another will be frightened of their darkened room and the scary secrets it may hold. Nightlights and thorough searches for hidden monsters may be in order. You may try discussing the issue during the daylight hours. There may be a specific reason they are afraid and you can do your best to correct it.

Anxiety may also result from recent changes in the household such as divorce, the addition of a sibling or a move to a new home. Take extra care to have a bedtime routine that is quiet and calm. Allow your child to voice their fears but keep a firm grip on the situation.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is often confused with ‘growing pains’ in small children. RLS is basically feelings in the legs that make a person feel like they must get up and move to relieve the pain. The very act of trying to sit still or lie down will cause the symptoms to worsen.

People with RLS may report tugging or burning sensations. They may feel like they must get up and move about and feel strange pinching and pulling like sensations. Cases of RLS vary greatly in intensity going from mildly irritating to almost unbearable.

If your child is awakening constantly in the night and complains of leg pains you may want to schedule an appointment with your child’s pediatrician. RLS is treated by trying to alleviate the symptoms. A doctor might also try to help reduce the symptoms via your child’s diet.

Bed Wetting

Most children will have accidents in the night during potty training. You don’t have to be concerned with this as it’s quite natural. When your child has been dry at night for quite awhile and they suddenly begins to wet the bed you should be concerned.

Bed-wetting is usually caused by a child’s bladder being too small and the child sleeping so deeply they don’t awaken when the bladder is full. It can also be brought about by stress and insecurity. Major stress events can cause a child to wet the bed. Divorce, moving or starting school can trigger the problem.

There are a few different approaches your doctor may suggest to help alleviate the problem. Retention control is where you have your child hold their urine during the day for a few minutes after they feel the urge to use the bathroom. This can help further develop the muscles that help to hold the urine inside until your child can get to the bathroom. They may also suggest you wake your child ever few hours in the night to use the potty until the body can take over.

Remember that you should never yell at your child or punish them for wetting the bed. This will only make the problem worse. There is generally an underlying medical reason for the accidents.

Sleep Apnea

This condition can be a dangerous one. Sleep apnea is caused by interrupted breathing during the night. In some cases tonsils and adenoids may be getting in the way of the airway. The muscles that hold the airway open may also be too weak causing the airway to collapse when a child is lying down. Apnea is more prevalent in overweight children and can lead to serious physical complications.

The most obvious symptom of sleep apnea is snoring. Children with this condition may not be getting adequate amounts of oxygen during the night. This can cause what is known as “failure to thrive” along with fatigue and irritability. These children are often grumpy and are awakened multiple times during the night.

If the tonsils and adenoids are the problem removing them is the first option in treating sleep apnea. If your child is overweight this will need to be corrected. Oxygen can be administered to the child during the nighttime hours or surgery can be performed. Your doctor will decide a course of treatment depending on the severity of your child’s case.

Night Terrors

Night terrors are a bit different than your average nightmare. Children with night terrors will quite often wake up screaming or they might not wake up fully at all. Some children who experience night terrors sit up with their eyes wide open but are not really awake. When you ask them what is wrong they most likely will not respond to your questions. You may have a tough time getting them to awaken and when you do, they probably won’t remember what happened.

The best treatment for night terrors is to soothe your child as much as possible and try to keep stress to a minimum. Make your nighttime routine as calm and peaceful as possible so they are relaxed when they fall asleep each night. If your child is having night terrors at the same time each night you can try to gently wake them 30 minutes before the expected time and help them calmly go back to sleep. This may help break the sleep cycle and eliminate the terror.

Night terrors are not dangerous to your child and they will likely outgrow them after age five or six. The only time you should be concerned is if you child is getting out of bed as a result of the episode. In that case you may want to have a child gate over their doorway so they can’t wander out of their room and hurt themselves.

Sleep Talking

Sleep talking is probably the least worrisome of sleep disorders. Some children talk quite clearly while they are sleeping while other may just mumble or moan. There really is no reason for concern and it is a quite normal condition.

The only time you may have issues is if you child is becoming angry while they are sleep talking. This may indicate a nightmare or night terror and you may want to try to comfort them. If a child shares a room with a sibling they may keep them awake with their talking.

Sleep Walking

Sleepwalking is sometimes a side effect of night terrors but can be a problem that stands alone. The reason for sleepwalking is largely unknown but it is thought to be partially hereditary.

Children who sleep walk to not know they are doing it and will have no memory of it upon awakening in the morning. The danger in sleepwalking is the child tumbling down the stairs or walking outside in the night. Lock all outside doors and use child gates so they cannot reach the stairs. Keep their rooms clean up so they don’t trip on stray toys in the night. If you wake to find your child sleep walking simply guide them back to their bed so they can continue to sleep.
